A couple weeks ago, I finished reading Steig Larsson’s critically acclaimed trilogy, and was I ever impressed. Forget all the tween, Harry Potter, Twilight, pre-pubescent dreg that people become obsessed over. The Girl with… series is gritty, dark, sexual, full of incest & rape, and is definitely not meant for your children to read. There were some parts where I became squeamish and had a hard time getting through.
I also watched the three films, which were released in Sweden, and while the acting was impressive (particularly with Noomi Rapace, who played the devilish Lisbeth Salander), there was something missing from the film. It felt uneven, and the first film had parts from the Girl Who Played with Fire, which was really strange and confusing, especially if you hadn’t read the second book yet.
When I heard that David Fincher, the mastermind behind Fight Club, Panic Room, and The Social Network, was taking the helm of directing The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, I was beyond excited. Then add the fact that Trent Reznor is scoring the film as well, and we are definitely going to be in for a gritty, twisted, dark treat this year, especially when its tag line is “The Feel Bad Movie of Christmas”.
Oh, and Daniel Craig is playing Mikael Blomqvist, while Rooney Mara is playing the legendary Lisbeth Salander. You might remember Mara from The Nightmare on Elm Street remake, as well as The Social Network. There is something unique about Mara. I loved her performance in The Nightmare on Elm Street remake, and seeing her in the poster (ahem, naked with pierced nipple) for The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo makes me that much more excited for this Christmas!!
And, if that hasn’t got your interest piqued, then the song that is used in the trailer below is a cover of Led Zeppelin’s Immigrant Song, with vocals by Karen O from the Yeah Yeah Yeah’s!!
